Funeral Services for Sister Callye Geneva Loche, retired educator, will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Morehouse Baptist Education Association Building on the Collinston Road.  Rev. Freddie L. Smith will be the officiating minister.  An evening celebrating her life will be held at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Collinston Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Interment will follow the Saturday services in the Trousdale Cemetery.  Loche’s Mortuary, Inc. is in charge of the services.  Ms. Loche succumbed early Monday morning at her home with loved ones at her bedside.

On a warm August day, the 16th to be exact in 1944, Rogers William and Dollie B. Tappin Loche were blessed with their first child.  She was given the name Callye Geneva after Rogers’ oldest sister and Dollie’s youngest sister. On a chilly Monday morning, surrounded by her family, Callye stepped from mortality to immortality, caught a cloud bound for Glory, and joined family members who traveled before her.  Preceding her were her mother, Dollie B. Loche, her maternal and paternal grandparents, Willie and Georgia Tappin and Milous and Sallie Loche.

Callie grew up in a home filled with love and laughter.  Having the distinction of being the eldest child, it was her responsibility to take care of her younger siblings.  They knew they had to do what she said, and “not give her any sass.”  Even though many of the children worked in the fields, Callye Geneva knew that was “not her cup of tea.”

Church activities were an important part of her life.  She accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Mt. Sinai Williams Temple CME Church. An accomplished musician, Callye was the church pianist, was involved in many of the youth activities and enjoyed attending Sunday School conventions. Callye eventually decided to follow her mother and eight brothers and sisters and joined the Galilee Missionary Baptist under the leadership of Rev. Freddie L. Smith. She always loved the activities at church and proceeded to lend a helping hand. She became the Vacation Bible School Director, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Choir, Youth Leader, and Head Dietician of the church’s  kitchen ministry, and a Mother of the Church.

Educating their children was very important to Rogers and Dollie B. Callye was educated in the schools of Morehouse Parish. She was one of the first students to attend Collinston Elementary School from grades one through eight.  In 1962 she graduated from Union High School with her sights set on Grambling College. She graduated in1968 from Grambling College with a degree in elementary education.

Her first job carried her to Springhill High School where she taught music.  But, the desire to be closer to her parents and siblings led her to seek employment closer to home. In the fall of 1968 she was employed by the Morehouse Parish School System as a music teacher at Oak Ridge Elementary School.  From 1971 to 1984 she taught elementary and junior high students at Bonita Elementary.  In the fall of 1984, she finally made it home and taught elementary education at Collinston Elementary.  But, parish reorganization moved her to former alma mater, Union High School (now Delta High School) where she remained until she retired in 2001 after serving 33 years molding and shaping of young minds in Webster and Morehouse Parishes. After retirement she worked part time with the Morehouse Central Water Company as a water clerk.

Always an outgoing and personable lady, Callye joined various social clubs.  They included Zonta’  Social Club, Paragon Civic and Social Club, and just last year she became a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Solomon D. Loche Post 501 (named in honor of her father’s brother who served during World War II). Callye was also a member of the Louisiana Association of Educators and the Retired Teachers’ Association.

Although she was severely injured in car accident many years ago and a debilitating illness later on in life, she always had a positive outlook on life, knowing that her God was ALWAYS in control. She delighted in sharing adventures with her siblings, her nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers, and friends.  She LOVED to travel and experience new adventures.  She might be in Texas today, California next, Belize or Mahogany Bay two weeks later.  Retirement afforded her  the opportunity to travel, and travel she did.

Monday morning, January 8, with her loved ones at her bedside, she quietly slipped from her earthly home to a home not made by man.  Wonderful memories of her kind spirit, her infectious laughter, and  her penchant for life will be missed by her loving father, Rogers  William Loche, Sr., three sisters: Linda Loche Odom (Theabury), Bastrop, LA, Diane Loche Givens and Rachel Loche Lenoir, (Jerrow) Lufkin, TX., five brothers: Solomon Loche (Joyceleen), Longview, TX, Roy Dean Loche (Brenda), Rogers Loche, Jr. (Donna), Clifford Loche, Sr. (Connie), and Alden Loche (Susie) of Collinston, LA;  her son, Reginald Devonne Loche(Natisha) of Houston, TX, her goddaughter, Daviauna Motton, Mesquite, TX, her uncles and aunts: Anthony Tappin (Pearl), Irvington, NJ, Bobbie Tappin (Barbara), Houston, TX, Johnny Tappin, Collinston, LA, Geneva Williams, Houston, TX, Eddie Lee Tappin, Newark, NJ, Opeary Hill Loche, Veronica  Loche Tappin, and Josie Loche, all of Bastrop, LA,  a sister-in-law, Lureatha Amber, Monroe, LA, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.’’
