In Celebration and Loving Memory

of

Shirley Dianne Gray Scott

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."

2 Timothy 4:7

On December 4, 1947, Elias Clyde and Bernice Campbell Gray were blessed with a beautiful girl child. The first of six children, she was given them name Shirley Dianne.  Lovingly known as "Dianne" by family and friends, she grew up in a home filled with laughter, activity, and love.. On September 25, 2016 Dianne stepped from mortality to immortality and joined family who had gone on before.

At an early age Dianne was baptized into the body of Christ at St. Mary C.M.E. Temple.  She was active in the church having served as church secretary, Director of Children’s Ministry, Sunday school teacher and a member of the Missionary Society and Women of Faith and Favor Ministries. On the district level, she served as quarterly conference secretary.  Dianne also served several times as a delegate to the Louisiana Regional Conference.

Dianne received her education from the Morehouse Parish School System.  She was a proud member of the 1965 graduating class of Morehouse High School.  Dianne continued her education at Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Elementary Education. She continued her education with advanced degrees receiving her Masters of Science degree from the Northeast Louisiana University (ULM) in Monroe, Louisiana and her Masters of Science +30 from Grambling State University in Grambling, Louisiana.  Dianne used her education to serve children in many different parishes throughout the state of Louisiana.  Her commitment to learning and teaching were defining aspects of her life.

Always busy, Dianne would often spend her "quiet time" reading, sewing, and decorating.

In 1973, Dianne married the late John Hardy Powell.  To this union, a daughter was born, Shawanna La’Vette.  In 1988, she married Clifton Bernard Scott, I and was blessed with a son, Clifton Bernard (C.B.) Scott, II.

A proud Southern Jaguar, Dianne was a member of the Morehouse Parish Southern University Alumni Federation.  She was honored to have served as President of the chapter for the past 2 years.  She frequently attended the university’s home football games and her pride in the Human Juke Box (Southern University Band) was a spectacle to behold. This was never more evident than during the time when C.B. was a member of the band.

On September 25, 2016, Dianne departed this life for eternal rest.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice and Elias Clyde Gray, I.  Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Clifton Bernard Scott, I, two children: Shawanna La’Vette Powell of Bastrop, Louisiana and Clifton Bernard (C.B.) Scott, II of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren: Kourtlynne Brieonna Harris and Arieonna Elyse Bell; five siblings: Elias Clyde Gray, II (Beverly) of Detroit Michigan; Audrey Gray Wilson and Issac Calvin Gray (Paula) both of Bastrop, Louisiana; James Edward Gray of Euless, Texas and Karen Gray Larry (Brian) of Arlington, Texas; three godchildren:  Ashley Wilson-Heard, Keaira Mona Gayfield and Demarcus Green and a host of relatives and friends who loved her as well.
