Highlight of His Life's Journey

Brother George Sampson, known fondly as "Snook"  when he was a baby, was born on August 31, 1927 in Oak Ridge, Louisiana.  He was the son of the late Jim and Patty Elijah Sampson. One of seven children (four of whom preceded him in death), George spent his childhood in Oak Ridge, Louisiana. He went to school and attended church at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Oak Ridge.  On Saturday, July 23, 2016, he quietly stepped from mortality into immortality and joined those who have gone on before him.

He met and married Ms. Freddie B. Washington of Oak Ridge. Four children were born to this union: Shellie Ann (Shirley), Edward L (Bo), Eugene (Gene) and Kenneth (KK). They were farmers in Oak Ridge and Collinston until they decided to move to Bastrop.  He loved singing, gardening and talking to people. He never met a stranger; a real people person.

George eventually accepted a position at Georgia Pacific as a Chip Operator until his retirement. His wife, Freddie B. preceded him in death.

He later married Ms. Jessie B. Barfield. No children were born to this union and she, too, preceded him in death.

His greatest decision in his life was when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He worked diligently  after this decision as a gifted quartet singer and an anointed petitioner in prayer.  He united with the New Jerusalem #1 Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev Isaac Williams where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Bible Class teacher. He was an avid Dr. Watt’s hymn leader. His devotion to his church and its pastor continued as Pastor Walter Conners, Jr. accepted the call to pastor the church.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his three children, a daughter in law,Virginia, his son-in-law, Flood, his brothers, a host of  grandchildren, great grandchildren,  great great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and friends
