Henry "Son" Reese, Sr.

December 27, 1925 ~ August 20, 2016 (age 90) 90 Years Old

                          Henry "Son Reese," Sr.

Henry "Son" Reese was born December 27,1925 to the union of Flood and Emma Reese.  Henry was the oldest of six children.  He attended Ollie Grove School.

Son's hobbies were: worshiping the Lord, reading the Bible, farming, singing (The St. Matthews Spirituals), and spending time with his family and friends. Although farming was his first love, Henry was employed by International Paper, Berry's Packing and Morehouse Parish School System (School Bus Driver). As time passed Henry continued to provide for his wife and children by trying his hand at entrepreneurship.  He and two friends purchased KTRY radio station. He also  held several positions on various committees such as: 911 committee (present), Trousedale Hill Cemetery, Committee, and the ASCS Office (during his years of farming). 

Henry was a humble man, with compassion and love for everyone. He never met a stranger.   A pillar of the community; a pioneer, a civic minded gentleman, all describe Henry "Son" Reese.  On Saturday, August 20,2016, at his residence, Henry  Reese was quietly called home from his Earthly labor to his Heavenly reward. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mizell Reese, and a daughter, Melvinia Reese Whaley.


He leaves to cherish his gentle smile, his words of wisdom, his uncanny wit that often had family and friends in stitches, a legacy that will last for years to come:.his wife, Mrs. Fannie Reese, three sons; Henry Jr., (Ada- a special friend of the family),  Manzie ( Deborah)  and  Gabe, all of Mer Rouge, LA;   three daughters;  Linda R eese Jones ( Lewis)  and Wanda Reese Davis (Korea)  of Bastrop, LA, and., Veronica Reese,  of Charlotte, North Carolina;  three brothers Flood Jr. ( Gladys), Bastrop, LA, Harry (Sylvia) of Mer Rouge, LA, and Elijah ( Zelma) Bastrop, LA; two sisters: Mary M. Hobbs (George-deceased) of  Collinston, LA, Jestener Whaley ( Levi ) Westland, Michigan, and host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Serving as Active Pallbearers: Marcus Winston, Davis Logan, Sam Lee, Arthur Hobbs, Billy Burks, Willie Hobbs, Albert Hobbs, Willie Nelson, Doug Martin, Robert Sims, Don Gordon, Charles Smith, and Carl Matthews
