Funeral services for Mrs. Josephine Sharkey, a well-known retired bus driver, will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at Eudora Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Freddie L. Smith. will be the officiant of the services. The interment will follow the services in H. V. Adams Cemetery. Josephine Winston Sharkey was born on March 16, 1939, in Mer Rouge, Louisiana to Willie and Irene Winston. At an early age, Josephine became a member of the Eudora Missionary Baptist Church. She was a member of the choir and ensured family members and friends attended regularly. She drove a cab for years but was best known for driving a school bus (#276) for Morehouse Parish for 21 years. Better known as "Granny" or "Jose," she devoted her life to God and family until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Lucius Sharkey, a son: Carvan Winston, a sister: Ollie M. Austin, two brothers: Willie Winston, Jr. & Robert Winston, and a grandson: Condarrius Winston.
Josephine is survived by her children: Geraldine (Melvin) Mayo of Bastrop, LA, Arthur Taylor of Cincinnati, OH, Mark Taylor of Bastrop, LA, and Darryl Winston of Sidney, OH; her brothers: L.J. Winston of Mer Rouge, LA, Charles Winston of Detroit, MI, Melvin (Gladys) Winston of East Baton Rouge, LA; her sisters: Helen Chaffold of Bastrop, LA, Irene Taylor of Mer Rouge, LA, Bertha (Van) Jones of Bastrop, LA, Adeline Winston of Highland Park, MI; Ten grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, one great-great-grand and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
