"Ada - An Educator Worthy of Praise"

"You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.." Deuteronomy 6:7

Ada Mae Cloman was the third child of fifteen children born to the late Rev. James Prime Cloman and Mrs. Bell Clomon. Born on a Wednesday, December 25, 1940, Christmas day, to be exact, she was truly a wonderful present for Rev, and Mrs. Cloman.

Ada would graduate from Richwood High School, Grambling State University, and the University of Monroe.  She would spend over forty years touching the lives of the young people of Morehouse Parish. She was humbled by the fact that God had entrusted the lives of so many young people to her. And, she would not disappoint Him.

Sharing her love for education was the gentleman she gave her heart to, in the person of  Mr. Melvin L. Smith, educator and principal in the Bastrop Schools.  Both believed in the value of education and they instilled this value in their own chidren. Members of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church gave the Smiths opportunities to share themselves with the members of their close knit congregation.  From activities at the church to ministering to the less fortunate, Melvin and Ada Smith shared their lives and love of God with their family and friends.  Even after Melvin passed away,  Ada continued to serve faithfully, chairing various committees and working with her beloved Pastor Gee.

On October October 22, 2021, Ada Cloman Smith joined her loved ones, who preceded her in death, in a land "where one never grows old ".

"Ada Smith, Thank you for the knowledge you gave so unselfishly to the boys and girls of Morehouse Parish.  Your passion for success lit fires in your students that they carried into adulthood.. Thank you for always being there . Your kind words and encouragement will be cherished by so many.  Rest!"
