"Remembering Faye"
“I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35
***************
July 31, 1951, dawned hot and humid in the small northeastern town of Bastrop, Louisiana. It was almost time for school to open and the children on the west end of town were taking advantage of the last days of summer. Many parents worked while grandparents and other elderly relatives kept a watchful eye on the children. But, the excitement generated by the sounds of happy children dimmed in comparison to the excitement generated in the Gray household. Elias Clyde and Bernice Campbell Gray were about to welcome a new baby into their home. Tuesday, July 31, 1951, a beautiful baby girl made her arrival. They gave her the name Audrey Faye.
“Faye” as she was lovingly called by family and friends graduated from Morehouse High School in 1969 (“The Last Class of the House.”) She attended Grambling State University, returned home, and was later employed at Cherry Ridge Guest Care Center where she served as Dietary Manager prior to her retirement in 2019.. She delighted in preparing delicious and nutritious meals for her patients. Her Cherry Ridge family was just an extension of her family and they blended as one.
Her church and its members were a vital part of her life. A faithful and dedicated member, she was an important part of the Hospitality Committee. She loved caring for the members and would often prepare meals for those that were confined to their homes. She would faithfully send cards and gifts to many who were living alone. The joy of opening a card and seeing her beautiful handwriting has brought smiles to many.
She was married to the late Samuel Wilson and they were blessed with two children: Bernice Mitchell Burrell and Jamal Wilson.
On Wednesday, July 29, 2021, in her quiet way that was so much a part of her persona, Audrey Faye Gray Wilson stepped from her Earthly home to “a land so bright and fair.” Amen! Amen!
Cherishing her memory and grateful for that love she gave and her wise counsel, are her children: Bernice Mitchell Burrell and Jamal Wilson, her brothers: Elias Clyde Gray II, Isaac Calvin Gray, James Edward Gray; her sister, Karen Gray Larry, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, other relatives, and friends.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing.." 2Timothy4:7-8
