"The Babysitter"
"Come you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord!" Psalm 34:11
Friday, January 14, 1938, in Bastrop, Louisiana proved to be an exceptional day in the lives of Shelby Crowder and Jurelda King. Barbara Jean Crowder made her advent into the world. "And their lives were better for this. AND their lives were better for this!"
"Bobby Jean," as she was affectionately called attended Our Lady Help of Christian School (OLHC) and Myles High School in Sterlington, LA. When she was older, she met and married one Malvin Hall and they reared two children: Shelby Tyrone Crowder and Mary Helen Crowder (Armont).
A very industrious homemaker, who"had a way with children," she opened her home and her heart to the children of Bastrop. Parents, who had to work in jobs that would not allow them to stay home, entrusted their "babies" to Mrs. Bobby Jean. She not only took care of their physical needs, but also taught them kindness, and other positive traits that would carry many of them through their adult lives.
Her hobbies were varied. They included but were not limited to spending quality time with her family, especially those "grandbabies." She enjoyed talking on the phone and was especially fond of all of Tyler Perry's movies. She loved to cook, and as such, would spend time at some of her favorite grocery stores with her husband. She was very conscious of the changing Louisiana weather. Although she did not have a Facebook page, she could tell you just what was happening in the lives of Bastrop citizens.
On December 27, Mrs. Barbara Jean Crowder Hall caught a cloud bound for Glory and joined loved ones who had gone on before.
"So carefully we chose you,
To watch our little ones,
We loved the way you cared for them,
Until your job was done."
