"This is my Story! This is my Song!"

“Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood!”

Crawfordsville is a small town in Crittenden County, Arkansas. Now, Theodie Logan was born in Crawfordsville, but as a young man, he decided that he and his young wife, Ceola would move to Louisiana with Charlie Johnson, his uncle..  Farming was king and Charlie assured Theodie that he would find employment for him.  So, Theodie and Ceola moved to Mer Rouge, a small farming community much like Crawsfordville.  It was here that the young couple would rear their children. It was here that Ceola would give birth to their first four children.  Their fifth child, a beautiful baby girl would be born in Monroe, Louisiana.  They named her Bennie Ruth Logan.  "This is her Life! This is her Story! This is her Song!”

Bennie Ruth was born on May 30, 1954.  As a child, she grew up in a home filled with love, discipline, brothers, sisters, cousins, neighbors, and friends.  As was the tradition of African American families in the South, life was filled with church, work, church, chores, school, and church.  Theodie and Ceola were members of Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ.  They raised Clisty, Connie, Theodie Jr, David, Bennie, Pearl, Lillie, Sam, Margie, Clinton, Paul, and Lynn to love the Lord and use their time and talents to help others. Their faith in God and love for family was centered around activities at Mt. Zion.  Bennie Ruth loved singing so, it was only natural that she joined the choir.  Bennie was somewhat shy, but the choir director at the time, Brother Melvin Benton encouraged Bennie to try a song she dearly loved. She did, and after many rehearsals, Bennie Ruth Logan led her favorite song, “Sweeping Through The City.”  Her joy, her fervent exhilaration, and her enthusiasm were infectious.  The church was on FIRE!

Bennie Ruth attended Delta High School.  An excellent student determined to make her mark on the basketball court, she was a force to be reckoned with and proved to be a formidable opponent to those teams that challenged the Lady Mustangs.

Bennie Ruth had a kind spirit and gentle heart.  Her nieces and nephews were delighted when their parents left them with her.  She was an excellent cook who enjoyed fixing delectable dishes for the children.  She was a member of the Kitchen Ministry. She worked faithfully at Mt. Zion until her health failed.

A CNA by profession, Bennie Ruth loved helping people.  Her kind and caring spirit made her a natural for her profession. In her spare time, she loved playing a game of dominoes or spades.

On January 29, 2025, as the evening sun faded softly into dusk, Bennie Ruth Logan gently closed her eyes and joined those loved ones who had gone on before. Cherishing her memories and remembering her goodness are her loving father, Theodie Logan, Sr., her brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, the COGIC community, her patients, and the many citizens who were blessed to have known Bennie Ruth Logan.

“This Is Her Story,

This Is Her Song

Praising Her Savior All The Day Long!”
