“A Virtuous Woman”
“Who can find a virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies” Provers 30:10
Eudora, Arkansas is a small town in Chicot County just miles from both the Louisiana and Mississippi borders. Nine days before Christmas in 1928, Beulah Divins and J. Woodruff gave the world a gift that would span some ninety-five years. That gift was a beautiful baby girl who was given the name Bernice.
Bernice would grow up and meet a dashing gentleman from El Dorado, Arkansas. They would marry and raise a family that included Sammie, Bennie Jr., Bobby Lee, Jennie, Beulah, Zerline, and Georgia. They built a home, a home with God as the center of its joy, and family as the heart. The Williams household was filled with love, laughter, and a whole lot of activity. She instilled in her children a deep and abiding love for God, and the importance of being respectful and demanding respect.
Although she loved her children, Bernice’s pride and joy were “those grands, great grands, and great great grands.” There was a never a dull moment in the Williams' household."
Even though there were children to rear and a household to take care of, Bernice Williams had a personal “calling.” That “calling” was to help provide quality healthcare to the citizens of Morehouse and surrounding parishes. She was employed by Dr. H. F. M. Garrett for over two decades.
Bernice loved to cook and bake. She was well-known for her scrumptious cakes and pies. Children and grandchildren alike loved to visit Bennie and Bernice’s home because they knew there would always be something good to eat.
On the morning of July 12, 2024 at the Cherry Ridge Guest Care Center, Bernice Williams quietly shed her robe of mortality, donned her robe of immortality and stepped over into a land of joy, peace, and everlasting happiness. Preceding her were her husband, Bennie Williams, Sr., her son, Bennie Williams, Jr., a granddaughter, Tanyonicka Black Wilson, and a grandson, Marso Rogers.
She leaves to cherish her infectious smile, her wise counsel, and her deep and abiding love: her grateful children: seventeen grandchildren, many many great grandchildren, one brother, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
“Give her the product of her hands, And let her works praise her in the gates.. ”Proverbs 31:31
