Christopher Anthony Releford (Chris)
Funeral services for well known citizen and police officer, Christopher Anthony Releford (Chris), will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at the Williams Drive Church of Christ at 11:00 am. Brother Fredrick Smith will serve as the officiant. The interment will follow the service in Christ Cemetery. "A Gathering of Family and Friends" will be held on Friday evening from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Williams Drive Church of Christ. On Friday, September 15, 1967 in Morehouse parish, Louisiana, a beautiful baby boy was born to Ernesto Tone and Fannie Mae Crear Releford. The chosen name for this baby boy was Christopher ('bearer of Christ") Anthony ('highly praiseworthy").
Chris attended school in the Morehouse Parish school system and was a proud graduate of the Bastrop High School Class of 1985. Chris attended Louisiana Tech University before enlisting in the United States Navy in 1987 Chris proudly served on the USS Ranger until 1991.
After returning to Bastrop, Chris began his career with the City of Bastrop Police Department. He began as a correctional officer and became a patrol officer until he retired in April 2022. Chris worked as a security officer at Bingo Gold from 2007 until shortly before his death. He was also the owner of Protocol Computers and a car unlocking business. In 2025, Chris embarked on a new career as a sergeant with the Arkansas Department of Corrections-Delta Regional Unit. He served there until his death.
Chris loved his community and family. He was a volunteer coach for youth basketball and softball. He mentored many young people. His warm pleasant smile will be greatly missed.
Chris was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ernesto and Fannie Releford, parents in law, Earnest and Pauline Smith, and a special cousin/friend Michael Carter.
Chris leaves to cherish his memories, wife Nicolette, son Kevin (Malorie), daughter Christianna, grandsons Mason and Caleb. He also leaves siblings: Ernestine (Hozel) Haynes, Sandra (Artiefere)Buchanan, Helen Williams, Linda Moore, Donna Tucker, Emily Henry, Mary Cooper, Vanesta (Carl) McDowell, Ernesto (Donzia), Relefored II, and Flora Releford. He also leaves to cherish his memories: brother-in-law Fredrick (Deborah) Smith, sister-in-law, Lisa (Patrick) Coleman, and special friends/family, Alex Coleman, Todd Davis. Michelle and Jerry Brandon, and Kay Broughton. Chris was especially loved and cherished by his nephews, nieces, great nephews, nieces, and great-great nephews and nieces, cousins, co-workers, and friends.
