"The Music Man"
September 12, was a Thursday in 1946. San Bernardino, California was the place. Lillie Lugrand and Clifton Benjamin Scott became the parents of a baby boy. His name: Clifton Benard Scott.
Now, Clifton was raised by Henry and Christine Atkins in Lake Providence, LA. As a young child, Clifton loved music. He would often sneak out and journey down the street where his beloved teacher lived, just to play music. His amazing ear for music endeared him to his teacher at Griffin High School. He was an amazing saxophonist and excelled far beyond his young years.
Clifton attended Southern University, but enlisted and served a stint in Viet Nam.
When he returned from his stint in the army, he would often return to Griffin High School to lend his assistance to the band and special needs children. His love for music provided him the opportunity to travel the world playing with bands and music greats like Joe Tex, James Brown, Rufus Thomas and many more.
His hobbies included carpentry and hunting, but his passion was MUSIC. He loved the Chicago Cubs and the New Orleans Saints. He was a Mason, the leader of Worjam, and Six Degrees South Bands. But, again, his passion was MUSIC.
On May 14, 2025, Clifton Benard Scott went home to be with his God. His presence and his love for music will be missed by his children: Greg Goods I, Akil Scott Sr., Kurjurral Newell, Roderick Sanders, and Clifton Scott II, and Shawanna Powell, his grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends,
