"The Gentle Giant"
“I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another” (John 13:34)
It was a Monday, June 10, 1929 when Georgia Holman and David Hill, Sr. were blessed with their second of twelve children. He was given the name David Hill, Jr., but affectionally called "Dobba." On June 28, 2022, David Hill, Jr. passed from this earthly home and claimed his Heavenly reward. Preceding David in death were his parents, David and Georgia Hill, his wife Vera, sons Troy Hill, Horace Hill, three sisters and two brothers.
He was married to Vera Lee Causey for sixty-eight (68) years. To this union eight children were born.
David joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church at an early age . He served as a deacon and remained faithful until his demise. He received his education in the Morehouse School System, and he was a Mason of the Webb Choice Chapter Lodge #39 of Bonita, LA.
David worked for the Village of Bonita as a utility, maintenance and water works person. A man of many talents, David assisted in building his own home and many others. He worked at the cotton gin, a mechanic, plumber, cement layer, electrician, and farmer. He considered himself to be the best gardener and fisherman in Morehouse Parish! People came from near and far just to shop from his garden.
A civic -minded citizen who genuinely cared about people, David provided shelter for victims of the Texas Hurricane, over twenty-five victims of Hurricane Katrina, and the Bonita floods. David took the role of fatherhood for the James family where they occasionally resided,
David Hill, Jr., this "Gentle Giant," this lover of his community, leaves to cherish his memories, his wise counsel, and his caring spirit: seven grateful children: Lourie (Leroy) Jackson-Orient, OH, Precious (Huserl) Hicks-Detroit, MI, Gwendolyn Anderson-Detroit, MI, Evelyn Bivins-Milwaukee, WI, Glenda (Victor) Robinson-Bonita, LA, Ricky (Patricia) Hill-Milwaukee, WI, Kurt (Nakia) Hill-Reynoldsburg, OH, his siblings: Leola Odom-Bastrop, LA, Inez (LT) Jones-Farmerville, LA, Hazel Jackson-Seattle, WA, Rev. He also leaves his extended family: Carnell James, Patricia Dantzler, Marilyn Ramsey, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
Thanks is extended to Body & Soul, Heart of Hospice and nurses. A special thanks to his care giver Charlesetta Hampton and special recognition to Victor Robinson.
