"A Real People Person"
"And lo a voice from heaven, said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Matthew 3:17
It was the last Saturday in 1969, and Chicagoans bundled up as they settled back into their normal routines. The temperature outside registered 18 degrees and snow flakes fell softly to the ground. They had celebrated Christmas just two days ago, but Mary Burrell and Chester McIntosh were about to receive a very special gift that was NOT under their tree. It was a precious little baby boy. They named him Derrick Tyrone McIntosh. "A beloved son with whom they were well pleased. "
Their time in Chicago was short. They moved to California and Derrick attended Dewey High School. Derrick became a Forklift Driver for Freeman Teamster Union #631. He was a real "people person."
His hobbies varied, and were as exciting, yet as comforting as his lifestyle. He served as a tour guide, LOVED dancing, considered a great cook with emphasis on outdoor grilling. He was into photography. and thoroughly enjoyed entertaining family and friends. He was a technology geek and enjoyed delving into computer situations that others considered difficult. He enjoyed waterskiing and spending time in the water.
Derrick embraced everyone he met with love, kindness, compassion, and concern. He was a "Mama's boy" until the end. Not only was he a father to his daughter, he was a "father figure" to so many. He weaved strength, guidance, and love in the tapestry he called LIFE. Like the roots of a mighty tree, he provided a foundation from which many could grow. He was deeply admired, and when called on, he would lend a hand to anyone in need.
Helen Keller said, "What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose." The impression left by Derrick Tyrone McIntosh on the people he knew and the lives he touched will never be lost.
Rest In Love, Derrick!
Lives are blessed because
YOU
passed this way!
