They Called him “Doc”
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning” Psalm 30:5
On Saturday, July 11, 1964, Joe Fred Pitts, Sr. and Fannie Thomas of Bastrop were blessed with a child. His name was Edrick Alonzo Dunn, but when he was a little boy his grandfather, Leo Dunn, Sr. gave him the nickname, “Doc.” On Monday, August 5, 2024 at Reeves Hospital in Bernice, Louisiana, “Doc” went home to be with God.
“Doc” graduated from Bastrop High School. He loved working on trucks, which earned him another nickname, “Mr. Diesel.” A truck driver by profession, he loved the open road, which gave him time to reflect and visit other states.
He was an immaculate dresser and took great pride in his apparel. He loved singing in quartets . He loved The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Lee Williams, and The Highway QC’s. When he had the time, he loved hunting, fishing, and driving old classics.
Family meant the world to him. Whenever his help was needed by a family member, he was always there. He was committed to the people he loved. A family-oriented man, he loved his family. His commitment was unwavering and evident in his daily life. He didn’t see family as an item on his to-do list but rather as the essence of his day.
Edrick Alonzo Dunn "Doc" will always be remembered. His time on this earth may have seemed brief, but the impact he had was profound and everlasting by all who loved him.
