"A Life Well Spent"
“She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.” – Proverbs 31:20
The leaves of the trees were taking on gold, brown, and orange colors that announced the beginning of fall. But, the warm vibrant colors could not compare to the warmth and love that Roy Felton Archie felt for his young wife, Jerlean Barral Archie. He was about to become a FATHER! He was about to become a FATHER! It was a Thursday, September 21, 1950 that Roy Felton proudly announced to family and friends that they were the parents of their first born, a beautiful baby girl. They named her Flora Jean.
In that she was the first-born of seven, Flora delighted her maternal and paternal grandparents and her aunts. All had terms of endearment for her; Twiggy (she was a tiny little thing), Passie Mae, Flo, and, “Homegirl.”
Flora was a proud member of Morehouse High School’s Class of 1968. Education was vitally important to Flora. She decided to continue her education, receiving her Bachelor’s degree from Northeast Louisiana University.
A civic-minded citizen, she believed in giving back to her community. Whenever tragedy struck or there was an incident in the community, Flora could be found providing food, clothing, and anything to soften the blow of the catastrophe.
Now, Flora was the epitome of the word: “diva.” Her loving daughter, Dee, made sure that her mother and her aunt were “dressed” at all times, with their hair and nails “on point.” Her smile, her infectious laughter, and her vibrant personality endeared her to all she met.
Flora’s golden years were spent with her precious daughter, Danielle, and her “son-in- love,” JD, who made sure that she had wonderful memories of vacation spots that others could only dream about and Broadway plays like "Hamilton."
On April 4, 2025, with loved ones near, Flora Jean Archie bade farewell to this world, and joined loved ones who had gone on before.
“Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” – Philippians 4:9
