"The Good Soldier"
2 Timothy 2:4 - No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
It was May 15, 1963, a Wednesday, to be exact that Iola and Henry McMillan of the small community of Beekman became the parents of a baby boy. They gave him the name Gary Lynn.
Gary grew up in a family of love, excitement, hard work, and Christian values. He was an outstanding athlete at Bastrop High. Gary decided that he would enter the military and the United States Army was his choice.
An outstanding soldier and dedicated officer, Gary served as one of the most distinguished Drill Sergeants of the United States Army. Because of his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to command of group of soldiers with precision and style, Gary Lynn McMillan and his platoon were the recipients of many awards and commendations
Family was very important to Gary. He enjoyed family gatherings, hunting, fishing, and was considered was of the best cooks in this area. He delighted in playing with his grandchildren. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife: Edna McMillan; his children: Shagarria McMillan, Gary Williams, and Christian King, his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss this jovial, and caring man who was a credit to his family and our United States Army.
2 Timothy 2:3 - Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. Romans 13:4 - For he is the minister of God to thee for good.
