"She Touched Lives"
“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.” – Proverbs 16:24
April 15, 1948 was a Thursday, we've been told. A crisp spring day in the small hamlet of Galion, Louisiana. L. S. and Zannie Butler ha been eagerly awaiting the birth of their child; and it was on this day, she made her arrival. They named her Gloria Dean.
Gloria attended the public schools of Morehouse Parish and was a proud member of the Union High School's Class of 1966. She loved preparing delicious meals, and as such chose to be a dietician. Gloria married a handsome gentleman, Henry Downs, who preceded her in death in 2018. They were blessed with three children: Michael, Michelle, and Tiffany.
Gloria was a remarkable lady with a warm smile and a loving heart. She touched the lives of everyone she met. She was a source of strength, support, and comfort; always there to guide and protect those she loved. She never ever met a stranger. She was selfless, generous, and most of all compassionate; often putting the needs of others above her own. Her love was a powerful force that inspired. healed, and uplifted.
As we say goodbye to Gloria, let us carry forward the lessons she imparted, and the values she embodied. Though she may no longer walk beside us her legacy of inspiration, and empowerment will live on in the lives she touched. We can all carry that legacy forward to inspire the next generation.
Cherishing her memory, her guidance, and her love are three grateful children: Michael Downs, Richmond, CA, Michelle Downs Winfield, Baton Rouge, LA, and Tiffany Down, Bastrop, LA; three sisters: Shirley Butler, Bastrop, LA, Ann Pittman, Monroe, LA, and Evora Baker, Bossier City, LA; fifteen grandchildren who she adored, her Greater Magnolia family, and so many friends who will forever be blessed because Gloria Butler Downs passed their way.
Your memory will always be a keepsake
from which we'll never part.
God has you now in his keeping;
we will forever have you in our hearts!
