"His Life - His Way"

August 23, 1952 was a balmy Saturday in Bastrop, Louisiana. Odessa Washington and George Turner, Sr. became the parents of a bouncing baby boy.  They named him Jimmy Ray.

Jimmy Ray Turner loved life and people. His energy and enthusiasm were evident to anyone around him.  A family man, Jimmy encouraged his children to work hard and be their very best.  He was the father of eight grateful children: Jimmy Turner, Jr., Alinya Turner Edwards (Keith), Roderick Turner, April Turner, Korie Turner, Kevin Turner, Kain Turner, and Chadrick Avery (who preceded him in death).   Jimmy had a very special love in his life.  Lora Ann Edmonds and her children, Samuel, Shantel, and Brittney. He cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren. His special relationship with Lora afforded him an extended family, and her brothers and sisters became his brothers in law and sisters-in-law.  Their times spent together were full of laughter and good times. Raymond (Cassandra). Robert (Sentra), Lola (Tyrone), Mary Alice (Darrell), Betty (Tellis), Earnest (Lizzett), James (Farida), and Shelia loved the time spent with their "brother-in-law."

Jimmy Ray graduated from Our Lady Help of Christians School (OLHC) in 1972.  Known for his energy, work ethic, and his warm and engaging smile, Jimmy completed welding classes, served in law enforcement, and even became Supervisor of Waste Management.

Missing his smile, his advice, and caring ways are his children, three sisters: Mary Turner-Patterson (Robert) and Belinda Turner, Las Vegas, NV, and Jacqueline Turner of Monroe, LA; and many cousins, relatives, and friends.

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” – Psalm 16:11
