“A Life from Winter to Spring”

December 19, 1950 dawned as a cold winter day in Bastrop, Louisiana. A few days before Christmas, Herman and Augusta Campbell, and the little son, George, felt only warmth and excitement. God blessed them with a beautiful little present, a precious baby girl. To this child was given the name, JoRita.

As a young child, Jo received loving Christian nurturing from her parents and her St. Mary C.M.E. Church family. Always an active and faithful member, Jo immediately joined other churches when she left her home church. Because of her faithfulness and her love for God, on a beautiful Spring day in the last week of April, JoRita stepped from mortality to immortality and joined her loved ones in her Heavenly Home.

JoRita graduated from Morehouse High School in 1968. Fondly known to her classmates as “Tee,” she enjoyed her high school years.  Following her big brother she enrolled in Southern University and A & M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  She graduated from Southern in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Office Administration. She also did further studies at other universities.

Her employment as a United States Government employee transferred her to various cities in the United States including St. Louis, Missouri, New Orleans, Louisiana, Dallas, Texas, and Washington, D. C. She retired in 2005 and moved to Frisco, Texas.  She enjoyed her new home and traveled extensively all over the world.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her brother, George Campbell (Pamela) and their son, Joshua Jackson; an adopted family: Darlene Smith, her little brother, Kerry Smith, Brittie L. Washington, and Zenobia Williams, several nieces and nephews, and many loving relatives, friends, and her St. Mary C. M. E. family.
