"A Godly Mother"
“A Godly mother loves the Lord with all her heart, soul, mind, and strength.”
Dora Thomas and Felton Benton had no idea that September 9, 1934, a Sunday, would be a very special day for them. On this day they were blessed with a beautiful baby girl. She was given the name Josie Mae Benton.
The oldest of twelve children, six girls and six boys, Josie grew up in a home of love and Christian values. Her parents knew the value of education and its importance. She attended Morehouse Parish Training School, Southern University and Quality Nursing School.
In that she was the oldest in her family, Josie grew up taking care of people. Not only did she care for her siblings and family members, she extended this care to her chosen profession. For over two decades, she cared for others who were not able to take care of themselves. Her soft spoken demeanor, and her genuine love for people made her a natural for the nursing profession. She always met people with a smile, and stopped to chat with friends anywhere. She would always end her conversations with, “I love you, baby! Come to see me, now.” She retired from nursing, but continued to offer advice to family and friends when needed.
On February 14th Miss Josie Benton became the bride of a handsome young man from Collinston, Louisiana. She became Mrs. Milous G, Loche, Jr.
Josie was quite artistic. She loved writing poetry, journaling life’s experiences in rhyme. She also loved singing, especially her religious favorites. She delighted in spending quality time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family reunions were a favorite of hers because she had the opportunity to see family members “that she had not seen in a while.” Josie loved to shop. She was always ready to go on a shopping excursion, sometimes just for the ride.
Sunday, July 21, 2024, Josie Benton Eddins Loche gently and quietly, as was her nature, left her earthly home to be with her God and loved ones who had gone on before. She leaves to cherish her beautiful smile, her caring heart, and her truly giving spirit: six grateful children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and cousins, and friends.
“The Lord is near the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
