“She Earned Her Wings”

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.  Isaiah 40:31

Friday, July 15, 1938 dawned hot and sunny as most days in the South. But, in the little north Louisiana hamlet of Collinston, Louisiana, the weather outside could not compare to the warm glow of excitement of John Henry and Ruby Battle Davis.  On this day the second of what was to be eleven children, was born to the couple.   She was given the name Katie Lovie Davis, but was affection ally known as “Lovie K.” On Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at The Cherry Ridge Guest Care Center “Lovie K” transitioned from her earthly home.  “She earned her wings.” Preceding her in death were her parents, John Henry and Ruby Davis, her husband, Haybert Wilson, Sr., her son, Haybert Wilson, Jr., one brother, William Douglas, and one sister, Ruby Jean Davis Davenport.

On August 24, 1959, Lovie K. became the beautiful bride of Haybert Wilson.  They were blessed with four children. Three of the children were fondly known as “The Three Amigos” (BP) because they were always together.  But there was the “BP” also attached because it referred to a little fellow who totally disrupted the natural flow of their lives.  Peace and calm was the natural flow before “BP;”  “BEFORE PAUL.”  Haybert and Lovie’s youngest child, Paul, changed the lives of “The Three Amigos” forever.  But they flourished and grew up in a family filled with a great deal of love.

“Lovie” graduated from Morehouse High School.   She and her family were members of the St. Mary C. M. E. Church where she sang in the choir.  As a missionary, she enjoyed fellowshipping with her church members and visiting the sick and shut in. She was employed by The ARC, a job she dearly loved. Spending time and helping her ladies at “The Arc” gave her so much joy.  She continued working until her illness prevented her from doing so. In her spare time she enjoyed reading, exercising, singing, and cooking.  She never met a stranger and assisted her family and friends in any way she could. Her specialties included her cornbread dressing, potato salad, and her mouth watering sweet potato pie.

Lovie leaves to cherish her memories, her warm smile, and loving ways,  three grateful children: Barry (Linda) Wilson,  Bastrop, LA, Veronica  (David)  McCants, Killeen, TX, and Paul (Wyteka)Houston, TX; eight siblings: Paul Davis and his significant other, Annie, Baton Rouge, LA, Johnnie Mae Davis (Clyde) Dorsey, Bastrop, A,  Dorothy Davis  Sharp (Robert Lee) – Carson, CA, Linda Davis Luke, Reno NV, Dianne  Davis Johnson, Reno NV, Emma Sue Davis Peoples (Melvin)- Desoto, TX, Debra Davis Johnson (Leonard)  and  Paula Davis Gray(Isaac)  Bastrop, LA, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28
