"The Gentle Giant"
October 31 fell on a Friday in 1962. It was Halloween and chidren in the small hamlet of Collinston, Louisiana prepared to celebrate this day by visiting neighborhood homes to get all types of delicious candy. But for Helen Ann and Willie Barfield, their “treat” came in the form of a baby boy. They named him Larry Donnell.
A 1980 graduate of Delta High School, Larry loved music, farmed for a while, and he was employed by the Morehouse School System for fourteen years.
A gentle kind spirit, Larry fished a bit, and loved attending wrestling matches. But his real passion was horses. There was something about being on his horse and just riding without a care in the world. It brought him a sense of peace.
On April 21, 2025, Larry Donnell Morgan at Sutter Medical Center quietly closed his eyes, and peacefully went home to be with God. He will be missed by his daughter, four grandchildren, three sisters, one brother, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will always remember “The Gentle Giant!"
