Obituary

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.  Proverbs 31:10; 28-30

On the second Sunday in September, the eighth to be exact, in the year of our Lord, 1918, Robert Finley and Fannie McCoy were blessed with a girl child. They named her Lulean. On a chilly Saturday morning in December, the fifth to be exact, in the year of our Lord, 2015, Lulean stepped from mortality into immortality and gained her Heavenly wings.  She was ninety seven. Lulean expressed her love and belief in Jesus Christ at an early age, she united with the Cherry Hill #1 Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully in many capacities including the Mother's Board until her homegoing.

In 1934, Lulean became the beautiful bride of Frank Ricks. They were blessed with two children. She was a homemaker for her husband, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and she LOVED to cook. She never met a stranger, so her hobbies included talking on the phone, watching ALL sports on television: basketball, football, baseball, and definitely softball. But her greatest joy was spending quality time with her grands, great, and great great grands.

She leaves to cherish her memories, her words of wisdom and compassion: two devoted children: her daughter, May Lean Ricks, her son, Robert Charles Ricks (Jackie), five grandchildren: Nicholas Gibson, Roshekia Reese (Steven), Maurice Gibson (Shekira), LaKeta Ricks and Robert Jordan; eight great grandchildren: Kiman Ricks, Kyron Thompson, Sr., Kylan Ricks, Cayla Brooks, Ed'Travious Gibson, Kysan Reese, Dominic Robinson,, Jr., and Paige Bierra Jordan; five great great grandchildren, Kamarion, Kenya, and Kaidan Ricks, Za'Kyria and Kyron Thompson, Jr.; three nieces, Cathy Cherry (Alford), Patricia Foreman and Ida Ricks; one nephew: Raymond Ward (Sue); a host of great great nieces, nephews, cousins and one special cousin: Nebeth Wilhite.  Mother Ricks was also a "special mother" to Ophelia Covington, Zola Ricks, and she was a Matriarch of Love to many, many more who loved her as a mother.

Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.  Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised."
