"Remembering Mel"
Melvina Bernice was the name given to the child of Lillie B. Raino and Theory Raino in Wilmot, Arkansas. Born July 31, 1936 she enjoyed life and as she enjoyed her quiet life, her parents moved to Collinston, LA. On a quiet Monday evening, Melvina (Mel) transcended this life and moved to that Heavenly level where she joined so many that had gone on before.
She attended Morehouse High School. But one of her greatest joys in life was marrying the love of her life, Charlie Brooks, Jr. She loved taking care of her family, her children: Dorothy (Wallace), John Brooks, Sarah Brooks, & Brenda (Mitchell).
Mel enjoyed talking to people and was quite the conversationalist. She never met a stranger. She was very straightforward and did not speaking her mind. Her beautiful smile and quick wit kept many family members smiling after having a conversation with her.
She leaves to cherish her memory: four children, Dorothy Wallace, John Brooks, Sarah Brooks, and Brenda Mitchell (Glen); one sister, Bernadine Minnieweather (Curt), grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
I Thought of You
I thought of you with love today.
But that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.
I think of you in silence.
I often speak your name.
All I have are memories,
and a picture in a frame.
Your memories are my keepsakes
From them, I'll never part.
God has you in His keeping
And I have you in my heart.
