"The Seventh Child"
Cleveland James Holmes, the seventh child born to Cleveland Holmes and Luellla Higgins Holmes, made his arrival on Saturday, August 15, 1953, in Bonita, Louisiana. He departed this life on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.
He pastored Green Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Bonita, Louisiana, for 31 years, and he preached throughout Northeast Louisiana and the North and South Arkansas regions.
He worked for Georgia Pacific Mills for 33 years and retired in 2006, after which he continued working on small appliances, electrical equipment, and lawn equipment.
Left to cherish his precious memories are his devoted wife, Mattie B. Watson Holmes; one son, Michael Holmes (Bridgette); one daughter, Jocelyn Pope (Randall); and siblings, Ruthie Canady (James); John Higgins (JoAnn); Mary H. Jones; Ernestine H. Wade (Kevin); Ada Holmes; Charles & Lee Mitchell; Hannah M. Witherspoon (Jonathan); Francis & James Holmes; in-laws Lee Watson (Mary); Michael Watson (Rose); Charles Watson (Rose); Bruce Watson, and Darren Watson (Anita); Marion & Ora Watson; Don Morrison; and Leonard Montgomery (Delores); and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Although our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we rejoice in knowing that Cleveland’s labor on earth is complete. His eternal rest is now in the presence of the Lord. His memory will forever be treasured, and his love will continue to shine through what he leaves behind.
Lovingly submitted,
The Family
