The Seventh Child
"As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him."
It was the eighteenth of February, a Wednesday, in 1931, just a few days after Valentine's Day when Pliney Reese presented her beloved husband, General Reese with a very special gift, their seventh child. They named him Simuel, but those who knew him, affectionally called him "Sim." Sim grew up in a home filled with love, discipline, love for God. and a belief in the dignity of work.
He worked for International Paper Company as a contractor.
On October 5, 1952, Sim took unto himself a bride, the beautiful and enchanting Doris Brown. Together they reared a loving and caring family: Sim Jr., Betty, Louis, Katie, and Patricia until God called Doris home to her heavenly reward.
Sim's greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. But, running a close second were his friends, his buddies, who would spend hours with him playing dominoes and enjoying good food. Even as he grew older, his ability to count as he played dominoes with friends mystified his opponents, He would give that gentle smile as he won game after game.
Early Friday morning, July 10, 2026, at his daughter's home, with children gathered near his bedside, Simuel Reese, Sr., quietly left this world as we know it, bound for glory. Oh, what a grand reunion that will be with all of his loved ones, who have gone on before him happily welcomeing him home.
Cherishing his memory are his grateful children, grandchildren, great -grandchildren, one sister, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Sim, the Seventh Child who brought joy to so many: Simuel Reese, Sr.
