"A Celebration of Life" honoring the life and legacy of former Morehouse Parish resident, Sister Helen Harris Hill, of Mobile, AL, will be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at ten a.m.  The graveside service will be held in the St. Luke Baptist Church Cemetery in Bonita, Louisiana. Rev. Bernard Jones will serve as the officiant of the service.  "A Gathering of Family and Friends" will be held on Tuesday evening, July 14, 2026, from four to six p.m. in the chapel of Loche's Mortuary.  To send flowers, words of condolence, or light a candle, kindly follow the directions to your left.

Tuesday, September 12, 1931, dawned a hot day in Mer Rouge, Louisiana, a tiny rural farming village in Northeast Louisiana. Life  in Mer Rouge centered tightly around church, family. and agriculture. On this day, the late Cordelia Dunkin and Ivey James Harris, Sr. were blessed with their fifth child.  They named her Helen.  

Helen and her siblings were taught a deep and abiding faith in God, the importance of hard work, and strong family values. She accepted the Lord as her Savior as a young girl and joined the Eudora Missionary Baptist Church.  She worked faithfully in her church and school.

Helen and her beloved husband, the late Edward Hill, a World War II veteran, moved to Mobile, AL, where they united with the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.  She joyfully dedicated her time to many areas of ministry: Vacation Bible School Teacher,  Baptist Training Union Teacher, and a Sunday School Teacher. She was a Deaconness, a member of the 55 Plus Club, and the Nursing Ministry. She was honored as Shiloh's oldest member because of her dedication and service to Shiloh and its band of members.

Helen's service to her community and members of Shiloh  also included her  profession as a Registered Nurse. She served  thousands of patients at  Providence Hospital in Mobile, AL for more than thirty years.  Her love, compassion, and dedication endeared her to her patients and co-workers alike.   

On Monday, June 29, Helen Harris Hill, beloved mother and servant of God went home to be with loved ones who had gone on before.  Preceding her in death were her parents, her beloved husband of fifty plus years, Edward Hill , her siblings, Columbus Harris, Ivey Harris, Jr., Felix Harris, Vera Harris Carter, Betty Harris Keeter, Hazel Harris Drumgoole, Sadie Harris Rose, Katie Harris, and Emma Harris;  mother and father in law, Cammie and William Hill, sisters in law, Opeary Hill Loche, Willie Mae Hill Sheared, and Ruby Hill Waits.

Cherishing her memory, her guidance, and her beautiful smile are: Helen's devoted son, Juan Eric  (Lenore) Hill, Sr.Mobile, AL, step-daughter, Diane Smith, Bastrop, LA, four grandchildren: Brittany(Roberto) Richardson, Juan Hill, and Kendra Hill, Mobile, AL, and Kayla Hill, Atlanta, GA;  five great grandchildren: one beloved sister, Callie Harris Wilson, Mer Rouge, LA, godchildren, nieces, nephews, family members, and friends, who, individually and collectively were special to Sister Hill. 

Her love for family and friends knew no bounds. If she could help anyone along the way, Helen Harris Hill did it without hesitation. She will forever be remembered by those who knew her as Mama, Grandma, Mother Helen, Aunt Helen, and many other terms of endearment. 

Service was her life's mission!
