"The Master Mechanic"
Some folks say that a mechanic's job is a dirty one, because ALL mechanics do is work on cars. Some folks say that mechanics don't communicate well with the average person. But those that know mechanics, really know these "automotive technicians" know that the skills they possess are rare and represent people who have the touch of a genius. While we regular folks take a vehicle for granted other than putting in gas or changing the oil. But for Willie Jay Blackwell, "The Master Mechanic," working on cars was a "calling."
Willie Jay Blackwell was born in Hazelhurst, Mississippi on a Friday, December 18, 1942 to be exact. His parents were Majoria Ellen Lomack and J. B. Blackwell. He attended "The School of Life." In 1976 while living in Chicago, "Jay" met a lovely young lady from Bonita, Louisiana. In July of 1982, they were wed. That same year, they moved to Bastrop to be close to her family. Jay enjoyed cooking, fishing, landscaping, helping others, and making people laugh.
Jay and Helen were members of the Greater Magnolia Missionary Baptist Church. He was a deacon and also served as an usher. They were both loved by his church members and other friends they met while living in Bastrop. Last year in September, Helen went home to be with God.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, grandchildren, one great granddaughter, and friends who will forever remember Willie Jay Blackwell: "The Master Mechanic."
