Willie Jean Mason-King
Born the second child to the union of Robert L. & Fleeta Mae Mason on February 12, 1950 was their darling baby girl, named Willie Jean Mason. Willie Jean grew up in Bastrop, Louisiana. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age and was baptized into Christian fellowship, becoming a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church (Reverend E. L. Grant, Pastor).
She attended Morehouse for a few years but received her diploma from OLHC (Our Lady Help of Christian) High School. She became a lead seamstress and inspector for The Jordache Garment Factory (a popular manufacturer of designer jeans) and on a personal level, modified patterns to design formal and everyday outfits for family and others. Later in life, she studied to become certified in massage therapy.
Jean was VERY rich in love for her 3 children: Rhonda G. Mason (Dallas, TX), Hiwatha S. Eversley (Wiley, TX) and Ruffin L. Mason (Dallas, TX) who loved her VERY much as well.
She was a dedicated mother and homemaker blessed with 4 grandchildren: Porche Washington, Aliyah Howard, Alizah Eversley, and Maryah Mason plus, three great-grandchildren: Jayla Washington, Semaj Washington & Major Washington. Her life was also graced with a son-in-law - Wilton Eversley, and many friends. She had a special love for all her family.
She is survived by 2 sisters, Vivian Mason Kemp (McKinney, TX) and Mona Rochelle Wonzo (Balch Springs, TX), 1 brother, Robert Lee Mason, Jr. (Camden, AR), 1 step-sister, Arnita Fay Harden and brother-in-law, Jerry Harden (Bastrop, La). She leaves to cherish her memory and legacy, her three children, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four siblings and a host of beloved relatives including: uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a few very special friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother (Fleeta Mae Wonzo Mason), father (Robert Lee Mason, Sr.), step-mom (Catherine Hopkins Mason), maternal grandparents (Ruffin Lavell Wonzo & Emma Jean Taylor Wonzo), paternal grandparents (Sylvester Mason & Lee Gurtha Stevens Mason/Wilson), husband (Roosevelt King), 2 uncles & 4 aunts.
On December 1, 2025, a cold and dreary Monday, Willie Jean King arose from sleep, had her usual morning cup of hot coffee then caught the morning flight to her heavenly home. She is free from the cares of this world, in the presence of The Lord and waiting on the other side of the great divide for us to come on home. One day, we will… in God’s perfect time, for no one knows the day nor the hour. YOU ARE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS & WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED. GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN.
