The Farewell Services celebrating the life of  Mrs. Arletha Thompson Olive ​will be held on Monday,January 18, 2016 in the chapel of Loche's Mortuary,  at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Freddie L. Smith will be officiating the service. Wake services will be held on Sunday evening, January 17, 2016 from  5-6 p.m. in the chapel of Loche's Mortuary. The Interment will follow the services at Red Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a luncheon after the Interment at the Morehouse Association Building on the Collinston Road.

One Monday in March of 1923, the 12th to be exact,  Cornell and Mamie D. Thompson were blessed with a baby girl. They named her Arletha. On the first Wednesday in 2016, the 6th to be exact, Arletha stepped from mortality to immortality, joined those who had gone before her, and returned to her heavenly home.  Arletha was a housewife, a  holy sanctified member of God's house. She lived in Mer Rouge, LA. She was immersed in the Baptist Christian community and a member of the West End Church of God in Christ where she served for the vision of the ministry of God. She enjoyed taking part in church functions especially fundraisers. Arletha attended St. Matthews Hall School in Mer Rouge, LA.

At age 21, Arletha​ married her best friend and helpmate, the late Fred Christopher Olive on October 7, 1944 in Mer Rouge, LA. They were married until his demise in June 2001.He desired and cherished her, calling her "Honey," or "Hun Dear." No children were born to this 56 year union, but she helped raise many nieces, nephews, and younger siblings.

Arletha ​was  the second born of fifteen children.  She was affectionally known as "TT," "Leth," and "Mrs Oli," and she was truly blessed. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and everyone that knew ​Arletha, ​knew that she could talks for hours. She always a great deal to say. Words of comfort, words of wisdom always came forth as she gave advice and words of encouragement to those she met. Now, in her younger days, she loved to dresses and her fancy "cat" glasses.  She devoted her time taking care of her beloved father until he passed away in the late 70's.

​Arletha ​is survived by her six sisters:( Ruby Turner (Robert), Mary Helen Cater(Willie), Los Angeles, CA, Mary R. Dickerson, and Wendy Kinnard, Staten Island, New York,  Martha  Lee Edmundson, and Hattie Thompson, Portland, Oregon; four brothers: Ural, Huey Lee, Curtis, and Ronnie Dean Thompson all of Portland, OR.  Preceding her in death were her brothers: James Wiley, Cornell Thompson, Jr., Wilbert Thompson, Ural Matthews, Leo Matthews, and Will Dickerson, and sisters: Doris Brandon, Lovie Fraction, Shirley Eskew, and Annie Lee James.
